Chocolate Remix presents their new music video "Pizza con champagne", a sharp satire of the 90s in Argentina. With an old-school reggaeton style, filled with samples reminiscent of the genre’s early days, the song and video explore the illusions and frivolities of an era marked by the adoption of neoliberal policies.
Through ironic and biting criticism, the artist deconstructs the illusion that policies benefiting the powerful will bring prosperity to all citizens, and challenges the idea that an unregulated system will lead to individual success through merit and general prosperity.
In this song, Chocolate Remix draws a parallel between two historical phenomena: the rise of neoliberalism in Argentina during the 90s, which culminated in the devastating 2001 economic crisis and social upheaval, and the emergence of the reggaeton movement in Puerto Rico during the same decade, which exploded in the early 2000s, but this time in a worldwide surge of popularity. The song not only revives the sounds and aesthetics of the time, but also critically examines the consequences of policies that promised prosperity but ultimately exacerbated inequality.
The music video, directed by Gonzalo Mitcoff, is full of visual references to the iconic events and symbols of 90s Argentina. Through historical footage and recreated scenes, the video recalls both the rise and fall of an era characterized by the promise of easy wealth and the reality of an imminent collapse.
Chocolate Remix continues their tradition of using music as a tool for social critique. On this occasion, "Pizza con champagne" serves as a reminder of the dangers of an economic policy that, despite being presented as innovative, has already proven its failure in the past. With a mix of humor and insight, the song invites reflection on the lessons history has taught us.
"Pizza con champagne" is part of their latest album "MINGA", released in May. Currently, the artist is on tour in Europe until the end of September, presenting the album, and in October, they will perform a special show in Buenos Aires and other provinces in Argentina.
